In a large deep pan, heat the oil and add the florets,
saute for 1 minute while mixing with a wooden spoon.
In a small bowl, mix the hawaij spice, salt, and hot water. Add the mixture to the pan along with the frozen peas. Stir well.
Continue cooking for 2 minutes, turning the florets until evenly coated with the yellow spice.
Cover and cook on low-medium heat for 12 minutes, stirring once halfway through.
Personal notes
This is a quick and aromatic cauliflower side dish, ready in just 15 minutes.
It is simple to make, yet full of flavor thanks to the fragrant hawaij spice blend.
If preparing a few hours in advance, cook for only 6 minutes. When reheating, add an additional 3-4 minutes of cooking.
One time, I accidentally used frozen edamame (the fully cooked, shelled kind from Trader Joe's)
instead of peas, and my family loved it!
While I usually stick with frozen peas since they are always
on hand in my freezer, that happy accident became a new favorite. Now, when I have frozen edamame,
I'll often toss them in, either in place of the peas or alongside them.
Another favorite of mine that uses hawaij spice is the
Sweet Potatoes with Hawaij Spice recipe.
